-My Mama’s and I have a strong bond, and they’re fine with me holding the pups right after birth. We begin touch desensitization from day 1. By the time the pups open their eyes, they have a face to put with the human they’ve been smelling since birth.
-Potty Training: begins at 3 weeks old; (Yes, Pomskies are that smart) by placing wee wee pads on one half of their whelping box. Between 4-5 weeks old we move them out into our living room & we continue potty training on wee wee pads in different areas so they learn to pee on the pad vs. just a specific part of the house. Depending on the time of year & weather conditions we also potty train them outside.
-Supplemental Feedings, Supplements, and water begin between 3 1/2-4wks old (once their teeth have grown in). We begin NuVet Plus Supplements with their very first meal, and within a week we add on NuJoint Plus Supplements. Water is strictly bottled from Poland Spring.
– A lot happens once they move out into the living room. We have 2 crates, so they’re Introduced to crates, as I mentioned we continue potty training. We also slowly begin to introduce them to our Pack, so they gain confidence with other dogs & our cat Ziva. As the pups grow and start navigating around the house they’re taught what they can and cannot chew on so they’re used to living in a home and not destroying it. They learn to sit, stay, give paw, respect/obey their Pack Leader (Me/Hubby), and patience!
-Treats/Bones: Teething treats consist of puppy bully sticks, Beef tendons, & Wild Earth No Hide Stix. For training we use Wellness Soft Bite & Crunchy Puppy Training Treats.
-Nails: We clips their nails every 3rd day from birth because those babies have razor sharp nails and we must keep them short & smooth to protect Mama.
– Dental Hygiene: is just as important for pups/dogs as it is with humans so we begin brushing their teeth at around 5 weeks old. We use an all natural Doggy Tallow Toothpaste, which we send the pups home with as well. Thanks to an epic Breeder who created the toothpaste, Brushing your pups teeth will NEVER Seem like an impossible chore.
-Bath Time: We bathe the pups once a week. If it’s warm out and they play outside they might end up with an extra bath or 2 per week. Depending on the weather we also allow them to play in water because Pomskies love water and we want them comfortable doing anything & everything.
– Sound Desensitization: This is a Biggie!!! We begin Sound Desensitization around 4 weeks old. We play sounds like Thunderstorms, birds, crickets, fireworks, sirens, gunshots, lullabies, etc etc. I keep the TV on all day as well. We also introduce them to DogTV which I Highly Recommend for puppy owners. The goal is for your pup to Always feel safe and secure and not become fearful or anxious during the 4th of July, or if they hear sirens.
-Socializing is Always fun!! The pups get introduced to my family, after their first round of shots I bring them to my parents house so they gain confidence in a new environment, and meeting new people. They get to play with my niece who is 3 yrs old. At 7 weeks old we take them to the Tractor Supply Store. I sanitize, then set up a shopping cart with a blanket from home and we stroll around the store, they get to meet the employees (whom we’re all friends with). I give the employees approved treats which they give the pups.
-Car Rides: We begin car rides at 6 weeks old. We start off with short rides then extend them up to 30 minutes.
I’m sure I forgot to add something, or if you feel like something is missing please don’t hesitate to ask. We prepare them as best we can in every possible way to be well adjusted and ready to begin their forever lives with you!
